January, 2010 Game Night Recap!
by John Hornberger
Has everyone caught their respective breaths yet?
Music games night was a blast! We continued our trend of picking up an extra face every month, and not only that, but Leo K made a long-awaited public appearance too.
The trivia game-golem I threw together was enough to get most of us thinking along the right lines for the night - and Tom M and Frank T (each of them at game night for the first time) both impressed!
There was a lot going on at the same time as trivia - upstairs, teams were trying to out compete each other in Encore (the lyrical stylings of half of our local group were overheard throughout the game), while downstairs band mates were constantly changing in Rock Band, which continued all the way up until midnight!
After Encore, we left trivia for a game of Humm...ble, which went very quickly, and without agony, thanks to the formation of two (rather than 4) teams. We did the same, afterwards, for Song Burst, which did become agonizing once in a while, but those moments were drowned out by the tons of laughter that came along with it.
By midnight we were down to 9 people, so we had enough to try out one of my newer (owned, not published) games, The Werewolves of Millers Hollow. Let me tell you something, folks, this is a special game. I understand it isn't new to some of you, but I have a new top 5 game to play. It's small too, so expect to see me produce it next time you see me and I see an opening for the game. In fact, allow me to refer you to my blog where I wrote up a detailed review of the game: http://gamesbyjohnny.wordpress.com/
After several games of Werewolves, it was a little late but we had it in us to play The Poll Game, in which players ask sometimes provocative "truth" type questions for everyone to answer honestly, and then try to predict how many would say yes. Suffice it to say that we were amply provoked, but we kept it friendly and fun, and at least partially clean...
So that was it, and that was great. Next month, taste tests and then food games! We hope to see a nice turn out for this!
